Veteran Sports Minister Neil Lumsden Bids Farewell: A New Chapter Begins for Ontario Sports

Ontario’s Minister of Sport, Neil Lumsden, has announced his retirement from Premier Doug Ford’s cabinet and the provincial legislature, effective August 4. Lumsden, a former Canadian Football League player and manager, has served as the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Hamilton East-Stoney Creek since 2022.

In a heartfelt message to the constituents, Lumsden expressed his gratitude, stating, “Representing you has been the honour of a lifetime.” Premier Ford, in response, praised Lumsden for his dedication, acknowledging his contributions both in politics and his previous career in the CFL. Ford specifically highlighted Lumsden’s support for Toronto’s successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup.

With Lumsden’s retirement, Premier Ford now faces the departure of three cabinet ministers, marking a significant change in his leadership team.
