A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon at Lake of Two Mountains within Oka National Park, as a man lost his life in a drowning accident. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has announced plans to deploy divers on Monday morning to retrieve the victim’s body.
According to reports, emergency services were alerted just before 4 p.m. about an individual in distress at Lake of Two Mountains. Geneviève Bruneau, spokesperson for the SQ, revealed that the victim and a female acquaintance had ventured into the lake for a swim but inadvertently entered a deeper area, leading to a critical situation.
Despite the woman’s efforts to assist her companion, she was unable to prevent the tragedy. Fortunately, two passersby in a boat managed to rescue the woman, but the man tragically disappeared below the surface of the water.
The incident is said to have taken place at sector A of the unguarded swimming zone within the nudist area of Oka beach. Search operations are currently ongoing in the water, with divers scheduled to resume efforts at the location the following day.
The companion of the victim was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention.
