Police officers in Metro Vancouver shot and killed a man after he attempted to enter a police vehicle, leading to a confrontation, as confirmed by British Columbia’s police oversight body.
The incident took place on a Tuesday afternoon at a shopping center, with the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. now actively investigating the shooting.
According to the RCMP, officers were called in response to reports of a man wielding an edged weapon and threatening the public inside a business.
Subsequently, the man exited the business, entered a vehicle, and proceeded to collide with multiple parked vehicles. He was later located by the police at a gas station within the mall vicinity.
During a confrontation, the man allegedly tried to enter an unoccupied police vehicle, prompting officers to utilize a conducted energy weapon and ultimately resort to firing shots.
Tragically, the man succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, while fortunately, no officers sustained any injuries during the incident.
The Independent Investigations Office is urging any witnesses or individuals possessing video recordings of the shooting to come forward with information to aid in their investigation.
