The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is asking for the public’s help in locating Philippe Benoit, who has now been identified as a suspect in an ongoing homicide investigation.
Police say information gathered during the investigation suggests Benoit may be carrying a bladed weapon. While investigators say there is no indication of a broader threat to the public, they are urging residents to remain vigilant.
Anyone who sees Benoit is asked not to approach or confront him. Instead, they should call 911 immediately so police can respond safely.
Search efforts have been focused in the Lac-aux-Sables area, but investigators believe the suspect could be elsewhere in Quebec. Anyone with information on Benoit’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Sûreté du Québec’s Criminal Information Centre confidentially at 1-800-659-4264.
