A unique floating spa experience is set to make waves in Vancouver, bringing hot-cold therapy to the Kitsilano neighborhood. Following approval from Vancouver City Council, HAVN Sauna is poised to transform a 150-foot-long World War 2 naval vessel into a haven for relaxation.
HAVN, already established in Victoria, offers a rejuvenating experience that includes hot pools, cold pools, aromatherapy, and spaces for relaxation. With a focus on self-guided hydrotherapy, visitors can unwind for two to three hours at a cost of around $100 each.
Nick Van Buren, the CEO of HAVN, envisions the floating spa as a unique opportunity for Vancouverites to experience a blend of history and wellness. The plan has received support from David Jordan at the Maritime Museum, who sees the barge as a potential draw for both locals and tourists, benefiting the community and enhancing the museum’s offerings.
While the project has faced some opposition, particularly concerns about the barge disrupting the marina’s ambiance, proponents believe in the positive impact it could have on the area. Despite the controversy, the rezoning proposal was unanimously approved, paving the way for the barge spa to open its doors by 2027.
