“Quebec’s Own Charlotte Simoneau Triumphs with Gold at Commonwealth Games in Weightlifting Marvel!”

Charlotte Simoneau, a rising star from Quebec, has made headlines by clinching gold and smashing two Commonwealth Games records in the women’s 69-kilogram weightlifting event.

The 21-year-old athlete, hailing from Saint-Hyacinthe, wowed spectators on July 28 with her exceptional performance. She kicked off the snatch competition by effortlessly lifting 104 kilograms before setting a new Games record of 108 kilograms on her second attempt.

Reflecting on her success, Simoneau shared, “I began weightlifting to boost my strength, and now I can see the results in action.”

Her remarkable streak continued in the clean and jerk segment, where she began with a solid 127-kilogram lift, establishing yet another Games record. Pushing further, Simoneau went on to break her own record by hoisting 132 kilograms on her next attempt, securing the coveted gold medal in the process.

Expressing her elation, Simoneau said, “It was an incredible feeling. While I didn’t initially aim for the records, knowing I could reach those numbers during the competition motivated me to push my boundaries. Achieving them is incredibly special, as these records can only be broken once every four years. It’s truly amazing.”

The Commonwealth Games, a quadrennial sporting extravaganza, are currently being held in Glasgow, Scotland, marking the third time the city has hosted the multi-sport event.

Having started her weightlifting journey at the age of 12, Simoneau emphasized how the sport drives her to excel daily. “I find the sport captivating because it allows continuous improvement. It challenges your limits, demands motivation, and instills discipline. It’s something I cherish in life,” she added.
