An individual has been apprehended for allegedly brandishing a gun towards a customer at a café in New Westminster early Thursday morning, as confirmed by law enforcement officials.
New Westminster Police Department (NWPD) disclosed that officers swiftly responded to a 911 emergency call at approximately 6 a.m. regarding an altercation on the cafe’s patio in Columbia Square.
Upon the arrival of the officers, the suspect hastily fled the scene, dashing across Columbia Street and through a gap in a fence bordering the railway tracks before reaching the opposite side.
A thorough search ensued, involving the usage of a police drone and collaboration with the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service, leading to the successful location and apprehension of the suspect.
Post-arrest, officers discovered various prohibited weapons, knives, and containers of bear spray in the suspect’s possession during a thorough search.
The firearm linked to the incident was later found in close proximity to the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were recorded. NWPD has chosen not to disclose the suspect’s identity, and the investigation is ongoing.
