The Municipality of L’Ascension in the Laurentians region has issued a local state of emergency following an intense period of heavy rainfall.
With approximately 900 residents, the municipality announced via social media that the rain has caused significant damage to multiple roads, rendering some completely impassable or washed out.
Local residents have taken to sharing photos depicting the aftermath, including substantial washouts and landslides in the vicinity.
Authorities are advising residents to restrict their travel to essential trips, steer clear of affected areas, and adhere to all safety guidelines.
Recent reports from Environment and Climate Change Canada indicate that a total of 75 millimetres of rain fell in the Upper Laurentians between Sunday and noon on Monday.
