Thousands of people filled Danforth Avenue for the lively Taste of the Danforth street food festival in Toronto’s Greektown, enjoying a variety of food, music, and dance performances. Enhanced security measures were in place to ensure everyone’s safety during the three-day event.
Visitors eagerly lined up at their favorite food stalls, while others gathered around the stages to watch live performances. Dadir Yusuf, who used to attend the festival as a child, felt nostalgic as he roamed the familiar streets with his girlfriend. Despite concerns about safety following a recent shooting in Toronto, Yusuf found comfort in the festive atmosphere and the increased security presence.
Howard Litchman, a festival spokesperson, highlighted the diverse culinary offerings available, encouraging attendees to savor dishes from around the world. Organizers emphasized that safety was a top priority, with comprehensive security arrangements in place in collaboration with law enforcement and emergency services.
While some attendees acknowledged lingering worries about safety in light of recent events, many like festivalgoers Shaleena Clements, Saqeeb Hassan, and Enzo Perez expressed confidence in the overall security of the event. They were determined not to let fear overshadow their enjoyment of the festivities.
Despite initial concerns, participants like Erwin Smith, who traveled from Midland, Ont., to join the celebration, were excited to immerse themselves in the food and entertainment offerings throughout the day.
