A man from Newmarket has been charged with over 50 offenses in connection with a string of break-ins at businesses in the surrounding areas.
The York Regional Police (YRP) initiated an investigation earlier this month after a series of break-ins that took place overnight between August 3 and August 16.
According to authorities, the suspect allegedly broke into businesses during the night, focusing on safes and cash registers. Thankfully, there were no reports of any physical harm.
Following their investigation, the police identified and apprehended a suspect linked to 14 commercial break-ins in the region. On August 19, Jonathan Allan, a 46-year-old resident of Newmarket, was arrested.
Allan is now facing a total of over 50 charges, which include possession of break-in tools, disguise with criminal intent, breaking and entering with intent, and violating probation. The police noted that the accused was already on probation when the alleged offenses took place.
Law enforcement suspects that there may be more businesses affected and have circulated Allan’s photo in the hopes of prompting additional witnesses to step forward.
It is important to note that these charges have not yet been proven in court.
