The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has reported that a 41-year-old man from Surrey has been arrested and charged for allegedly chasing a security guard while wielding a metal rod.
According to the authorities, the security guard discovered the man napping inside a parkade close to Cambie and Dunsmuir streets while on duty. When the guard asked the man to leave, he reportedly brandished a small metal rod and proceeded to swing it at the guard, causing damage to the guard’s vehicle.
The situation escalated further as the suspect then pursued the guard on a bicycle.
After a search, officers found a man matching the suspect’s description in another underground parkade, this time near Cambie and West Georgia. The individual was taken into custody without any issues.
The VPD has stated that the suspect is facing charges of assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000. He is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
