In a somber tribute, the Montreal airport authority (ADM) announced plans to hold a minute of silence on Wednesday to honor the ground crew worker tragically killed in an aircraft accident earlier this week.
The observance will take place at Gate 67 at 2 p.m., where airport staff and community members are expected to gather to pay their respects.
Oscar Robayo lost his life on Monday after being struck by an Airbus 350 aircraft that was in the process of reversing on a runway at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.
Tributes and condolences have been pouring in from various sources in response to the tragic incident. The airport workers union council, FTQ Montréal Métropolitain Regional Council, expressed their sorrow on social media, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of all workers.
Robayo was an employee of Samsic, a ground handling company operating at the airport. The fatal incident involved a French bee flight bound for Paris, which the airline has confirmed and expressed its full cooperation with Canadian authorities in the investigation.
The coroner’s office has been informed of the worker’s death and will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
