Montreal Canadiens have appointed Josh Anderson as an alternate captain alongside Nick Suzuki, as confirmed on Monday. General manager Kent Hughes also announced that defenseman Mike Matheson will retain his role as an alternate captain within the team.
Hailing from Burlington, Ontario, Josh Anderson had a strong presence on the ice during the 2025-26 season, playing 72 games for the Canadiens. He contributed 23 points, comprising 14 goals and 9 assists, while accumulating 90 penalty minutes. Known for his prowess in shorthanded situations, the 32-year-old forward scored two goals and four points in such instances, establishing himself as a key player in penalty killing. Additionally, Anderson led the team’s forwards in penalty minutes and ranked sixth in goals and fourth in hits with 129.
Having played a total of 688 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Canadiens since his NHL debut in 2014-15, Anderson has accumulated an impressive record of 160 goals and 113 assists.
