Travelers passing through Vancouver International Airport on Tuesday may notice an increased presence of emergency personnel, but there’s no cause for alarm. The airport is currently conducting its annual emergency training to enhance its response capabilities.
Throughout the day on September 15, passengers and visitors may observe exercise-related activities taking place both on the airfield and within the terminal. The training scenario may involve individuals portraying distressed or injured persons as part of the simulation. Rest assured, all participants will be clearly marked with vests, and informational signs will be displayed around the airport to keep everyone informed.
This training exercise will focus on simulating an aircraft emergency, testing the coordinated response efforts not only at the airport but also across the Lower Mainland region. Collaboration among various airport teams, emergency responders, airlines, government agencies, and first responders is crucial for the success of such drills.
According to YVR, regular training in realistic scenarios helps in evaluating procedures, enhancing coordination, and boosting preparedness to handle any potential emergency effectively at the airport. The exercise, mandated by Transport Canada, will involve over 400 participants from 25 different agencies.
Despite the heightened emergency activity, normal airport operations will continue without disruption, ensuring the safety and efficiency of all airport functions.
