The highly-anticipated UCI World Road Championships are set to kick off this weekend in Montreal! However, the excitement was briefly overshadowed when two cyclists found themselves in a bike-less predicament, as their prized bicycles were stolen from a hotel parking garage in the city.
The incident, which occurred on Sept. 14, involved the theft of two high-value bicycles, each estimated at a staggering $27,000. Fortunately, swift action from law enforcement led to the recovery of the stolen bikes after the suspects attempted to sell them on Facebook Marketplace.
A 45-year-old individual was promptly apprehended on the same day and now faces charges related to theft, resale, and possession of stolen property. Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man has also been taken into custody and is currently under police interrogation.
Despite this unfortunate turn of events, the show will go on as more than 1,000 riders representing 100 nations are gearing up to compete in the thrilling week-long event in Montreal.
