Montreal authorities have apprehended six individuals, five men, and one woman, believed to be connected to a drug trafficking ring predominantly based in the city’s Sud-Ouest area.
The arrests, executed by the Montreal Police (SPVM) on Thursday, stem from an inquiry into the alleged distribution of illegal substances among vulnerable populations.
Following searches in the Sud-Ouest borough, law enforcement seized a variety of street drugs, including cocaine, cannabis, amphetamine, and methamphetamine. Additionally, officers confiscated a firearm, ammunition, over $10,000 in Canadian currency, and a quantity of counterfeit $100 bills.
Three of the apprehended individuals were brought before the Montreal courthouse on Thursday to face charges such as possession of illegal firearms and drug trafficking.
The remaining three suspects are scheduled for future court appearances.
The three individuals charged are part of an investigation led by the regional South Firearms Multisector Team, EMAF, with collaboration from specialized units and SPVM precincts.
The SPVM’s approach to combat drug-related crimes is part of a comprehensive strategy that integrates law enforcement and civilian professionals with diverse skill sets. The focus is on identifying individuals exhibiting high-risk behaviors associated with gun violence and providing violence prevention alternatives.
The SPVM emphasizes the importance of public cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking and urges anyone with pertinent information to contact 911, their local police station, or report anonymously to Info-Crime Montréal at 514-393-1133. Rewards of up to $5,000 may be available for information leading to arrests, under specific conditions.
