A 24-year-old individual residing in Quebec City has been arrested for allegedly planning a terrorist attack on behalf of the Islamic State. The suspect is accused of engaging in online communication with members of the terrorist organization and collecting information to create a chemical weapon with the intent of harming Canadians.
The Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), led by the RCMP to address national security threats, initiated an investigation into the matter. The accused, identified as Louay Angoud, faces multiple charges related to terrorism, including involvement in the activities of a terrorist group.
Angoud is set to appear in court on Thursday at the Montreal courthouse, where the allegations against him will be addressed. The charges carry severe penalties, ranging from a minimum of 10 years to life imprisonment.
The RCMP’s Federal Policing Eastern Region emphasized the importance of combating radicalization and religiously motivated violent extremism, stating that it remains a top priority for the Canadian government.
