Authorities in western Québec have positively identified the individual whose remains were discovered by a hiker earlier this month.
The regional police service in Collines-de-l’Outaouais confirmed that the remains, unearthed on Sept. 7, belong to Ludovic Anthony Florent Chauvin, a 44-year-old resident of Ottawa who had been missing since February. Despite extensive searches in Gatineau Park in the past, Chauvin had not been located until now.
Chauvin’s abandoned vehicle was located in parking lot P11 near the Meech Lake area shortly after his disappearance. This particular area is a well-known starting point for hikers, offering numerous trails branching off the main route.
Authorities have stated that Chauvin’s death is not considered suspicious.
