The union representing healthcare workers at Cité-de-la-Santé in Laval has secured a victory in a case concerning the safety of the emergency area at the hospital.
Following a dispute brought forward by the Union of Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, and Auxiliary Nurses of Laval, the Administrative Labour Tribunal has ruled in favor of the workers. The tribunal has mandated the Integrated Health and Social Services Centre of Laval to implement measures aimed at safeguarding the health and well-being of staff in the overflow unit designated for emergencies.
The union had raised concerns about the layout of the emergency area, citing issues such as cramped working conditions and limited space for safe movement, which posed risks to the workers.
In addition, the tribunal found that the CISSS had breached a section of the Act respecting occupational health and safety. The CISSS has been given a deadline until October 23 to rectify the identified deficiencies.
