The Peel Regional Police (PRP) are currently conducting an investigation following the circulation of an anonymous letter that contains hate-motivated threats targeting Islamic centers within the community.
As a response to the situation, police officers were stationed in the vicinity of local mosques and schools on Friday for heightened security measures.
Although the PRP has refrained from disclosing specific details, such as the number of letters distributed, the origins of the circulation, or the existence of an imminent threat, they have emphasized the delicate nature of the ongoing investigation.
These threats have emerged shortly after Durham Region’s police chief announced the apprehension of individuals in connection with anti-Muslim and anti-Jewish threats earlier in the week.
