The Squamish Nation revealed that a black bear was euthanized by authorities early Tuesday morning after being discovered near Lonsdale and First Avenue.
Upon notification from the North Vancouver RCMP, the Squamish Nation’s Rights and Title team took charge of the bear’s cultural handling following its death.
This cooperative effort between the Squamish Nation and the authorities reflects a shared commitment to respecting traditional practices when dealing with wildlife encounters.
In a related development:
The bear had been spotted rummaging through garbage and green-waste bins in the neighborhood, displaying bold behavior towards residents and law enforcement.
With an increased presence of black bears observed in the area this year, and as bears gear up for hibernation, BC Conservation Officer Services stresses the importance of public awareness and caution around bear-inhabited regions.
