End of an Era: Iconic Quebec Retailer La Cordée Shuts Doors After 70-Year Legacy

Quebec-based outdoor retailer La Cordée, known for its expertise in outdoor activities, including camping and skiing, will be permanently closing its remaining stores.

La Cordée made the announcement on its website, informing customers that it will be ending operations in the upcoming weeks. The retailer had previously sought protection under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and had already closed two of its stores in Laval and downtown Montreal.

Despite the closures, three stores were still operational: one on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal, La Vie Sportive in Quebec City, and the Saint-Hubert location on Montreal’s South Shore.

Originating in 1953 as a Boy Scouts cooperative, La Cordée grew to become a leading destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The retailer assured customers in its online statement that its staff will continue to provide the same level of service until the closure.
