As Quebec’s general election approaches, business leaders are urging the future government to prioritize making the province more attractive for investments. They emphasize the need for ambitious economic policies that will benefit all Quebecers by boosting wages and supporting social services.
Andrew Lutfy, CEO of Dynamite Group and Carbonleo, highlighted the importance of Quebecers adopting a winning mindset. Drawing a comparison to the Montreal Canadiens, he stressed the urgency of striving for economic success rather than settling for mediocrity.
During a recent event, Lutfy set a bold goal of growing Quebec’s economy to $900 billion within five years and a trillion within seven, urging a focused approach to address key obstacles hindering growth.
Business leaders point out that Quebec currently lags behind other provinces and states in GDP per capita, indicating a need for a shift in mindset towards economic prosperity.
In the face of economic uncertainties, such as the ongoing trade war, industry leaders stress the importance of creating a favorable environment for investments without solely relying on subsidies. Alain Boucard, CEO of Couche Tard, emphasized the need for promoting healthy competition rather than favoring specific companies through subsidies.
While concerns about potential referendums remain, the focus for business leaders lies in improving the current economic climate to achieve the ambitious economic targets set forth.
