“Montreal Alert: Major Weekend Closures to Disrupt Traffic Patterns!”

The Ministry of Transportation and Sustainable Mobility has announced the temporary closure of Highway 25, including the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, heading towards the South Shore from October 9 to 13.

During the long weekend, from October 9 to 11, drivers will be rerouted to the Champlain Bridge to avoid disruptions caused by the Beneva Montreal Marathon. Subsequently, starting from October 11 at 11 p.m., traffic will be redirected over the Jacques Cartier Bridge. Nighttime closures of Highway 25 towards Montreal, including the tunnel, are also scheduled throughout the weekend.

Anticipate significant traffic congestion in the area. To avoid delays, it is advised to allocate extra travel time for reaching your destination. Police presence will be increased to assist with traffic flow, and utilizing public transportation is recommended for commuting downtown during this period.

The closures are essential for the replacement of fire protection panels at the tunnel entrance, necessitated by damages from past incidents and collisions. These repairs are crucial for opening a second lane towards the South Shore by the end of the fall season.

Additionally, there will be a closure on Route 132 eastbound, between Roland-Therrien Boulevard and Highway 20 (Jean-Lesage), during the night of October 8 to 9 for maintenance and winterization work.
