Mississauga mayoral candidate Alvin Tedjo reported that a campaign volunteer was assaulted by an individual wielding a knife while setting up election signs in a residential area on Monday night. Fortunately, the victim sustained minor injuries and a suspect was apprehended.
Tedjo expressed his concern and support for the victim, stating, “Last night, one of our volunteers was confronted by a stranger and attacked with a knife while installing election signs.” He assured that he is in contact with both the victim and Peel police as they investigate the incident.
The altercation occurred in the Truscott Drive and Southdown Road vicinity around 7:30 p.m. According to Tedjo, the assailant objected to the placement of a sign on a homeowner’s lawn.
In a separate incident, mayoral candidate Bonnie Crombie disclosed facing threats for attending a recent debate, leading to a police report being filed. Crombie condemned the rising negativity surrounding the elections, emphasizing that violence should never be a part of political engagement.
The escalating tensions were also evident in the first mayoral debate, with the candidates’ interactions being characterized as lacking civility and decorum.
