FBI Reveals Arsenal of Tumbler Ridge Shooter: Includes Previously Confiscated SKS Rifle by RCMP

Recently released FBI complaint sheds light on the conspiracy between a suspect in Washington state and the Tumbler Ridge mass shooter, revealing details about the firearms possibly used in the tragic attack and how the teenage killer acquired them.

According to the FBI agent’s sworn complaint in Seattle, James Bryant, charged with conspiracy to murder in a foreign country, disclosed that Jesse Van Rootselaar took guns and ammunition from her family’s gun safe, concealing them in her room in preparation for the mass shooting.

Online chats mentioned in the complaint indicate that 18-year-old Van Rootselaar enlisted someone to buy ammunition for her and planned to use a weapon that had been returned after being seized by the RCMP.

Van Rootselaar claimed eight lives on Feb. 10, including family members and students at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School before taking her own life.

The RCMP’s investigation is ongoing, with Assistant Commissioner Elija Rain noting significant progress but limited information release to protect the integrity of the probe.

Details from the FBI complaint reveal that Van Rootselaar had discussed possessing firearm accessories and a device that could convert a rifle into a machine gun.

A photo from the complaint shows Van Rootselaar with a rifle, adorned with a suppressor in the colors of the transgender Pride flag.

Van Rootselaar, who was transgender, mentioned adjustments to gun sights and showed a shotgun with similar Pride flag decoration, as shared in communications with Bryant.
