Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, the former representative for Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne under Québec solidaire, gracefully accepted his defeat on Wednesday morning and extended congratulations to his Liberal adversary, Benoit Clermont, for securing the victory.
In a close race on Monday night, Cliche-Rivard initially lost to Clermont by a narrow margin of just 39 votes. Nevertheless, a rectification by the returning officer’s final count revealed an error, ultimately granting Clermont a comfortable 275-vote lead.
Acknowledging this new information, Cliche-Rivard took to social media to express his recognition of the revised outcome and to offer his congratulations to Benoit on his win.
Expressing gratitude, the former Member of the National Assembly (MNA) also thanked the constituents who supported him in the 2023 election, emphasizing the honor of serving the Sud-Ouest community. Reflecting on his tenure, he conveyed his dedication and cherished moments from his time in office.
Cliche-Rivard, a legal professional, was elected in a special 2023 election following the resignation of former Liberal leader Dominique Anglade. His victory marked a significant milestone for Québec solidaire in breaking the Liberal dominance in the area.
