A Vancouver man, Tobin Haas, has been found guilty of causing serious injury to an RCMP officer during a traffic stop in 2024, according to police reports released on Wednesday.

Haas, aged 58, has been sentenced to just over a year in jail for his actions.

The incident took place on Feb. 17, 2024, when a BC Highway Patrol officer pulled over a grey Nissan on Highway 91 near 72 Avenue in Delta, B.C., suspecting the driver of having an outstanding arrest warrant, as per the BC RCMP statement.

The suspect, who was driving alone, tried to flee the scene as the officer requested his driver’s license and identification, resulting in the officer being dragged before managing to free himself.

The injured officer is still in the process of recovery, as confirmed by the police.

On March 25, 2026, Haas admitted guilt to charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and driving while suspended.

Apart from the jail term, Haas also received a three-year driving ban extension and a two-year probation order.
