“Thanksgiving Travel Alert: Major Road Closures Set to Disrupt Montreal Traffic!”

Planning to travel this long weekend? Be aware of traffic restrictions in Montreal as the city gears up to host the Beneva Montreal Marathon and several related events. The Ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable has announced that Highway 25, including the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel, will be closed towards the South Shore from Oct. 9 to 13.

During the marathon on Oct. 9-11, motorists will be redirected to the Champlain Bridge to bypass the affected area. Following this, the detour will shift to the Jacques Cartier Bridge starting on Oct. 11 at 11 p.m. Nighttime closures of Highway 25 towards Montreal, including the tunnel, will also be in effect throughout the weekend.

Expect significant congestion, so it’s advisable to allow extra travel time. Police presence will be increased to help manage traffic flow, and using public transit is recommended for those heading downtown.

The closures are necessary for the replacement of fire protection panels at the tunnel entrance and for maintenance work on Route 132 eastbound. Stay informed about any changes through Québec 511 and its mobile app for hassle-free trip planning.
