A father from Montreal has been handed a life sentence in connection with the tragic death of his nine-year-old daughter, whose body was found in a rural New York marsh.
Luciano Frattolin was convicted of second-degree murder and concealing a human corpse by a jury in Essex County Court, leading to the recent sentencing by Judge Tatiana Coffinger. Frattolin will not be eligible for parole for at least 25 years.
The case stemmed from a road trip Melina Frattolin took with her father in July 2025. Upon their scheduled return to Montreal, Luciano Frattolin called the police, claiming his daughter had been kidnapped. However, investigations revealed a different and horrifying reality.
Throughout the trial, the defence tried to cast doubt on the police investigation, but the prosecution presented compelling evidence, including car location data, cellphone records, and surveillance footage, to debunk Frattolin’s narrative. After a three-week trial, the jury swiftly reached a guilty verdict.
Frattolin’s sentencing was met with a notice of appeal from the defence team, indicating that the legal battle may continue.
This tragic case serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigations in ensuring justice is served.
