Mississauga Sees Record Turnout in Advance Voting for Municipal Election
The city of Mississauga is experiencing a significant increase in advance voting participation, with a remarkable 57% surge compared to the previous municipal election in 2022. A total of 44,049 ballots have been cast over a span of six days, marking a substantial uptick from the 28,052 advance ballots recorded in the last election cycle.
City officials have identified October 11 as the standout day for voter turnout, with an impressive 12,335 ballots cast, closely followed by October 8 with 11,022 votes. This surge in advance voting numbers signifies a growing trend in recent municipal elections, with 19,188 ballots cast in 2018, 28,052 in 2022, and 24,731 during the 2024 by-election.
Among the locations witnessing the highest advance voter turnout, the Meadowvale Community Centre took the lead, followed by the Erin Meadows Community Centre. The Mississauga Civic Centre in the Square One area secured the third position in terms of the number of advance voters.
For eligible residents who have not yet participated in early voting, the opportunity to cast their ballots remains available on October 26, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Mississauga mayoral race has intensified, featuring a competitive field of four main candidates, including the incumbent Mayor Carolyn Parrish, former mayor Bonnie Crombie, and city councillors Alvin Tedjo and Dipika Damerla.
