Seven individuals, including three members of the Canadian Armed Forces, have been charged in connection with the kidnapping of a man targeted for his cryptocurrency assets in Toronto. Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw revealed that a total of 82 criminal charges have been laid after what initially began as a kidnapping investigation expanded into a broader inquiry involving firearms, stolen military ammunition, and organized crime.
The victim was reportedly abducted on July 25, 2026, near Finch Avenue East and Bayview Avenue in North York. Following a call to the Toronto police integrated kidnapping unit, it was discovered that the victim was forcibly taken and subsequently released under threat of not involving the authorities.
The case took a significant turn as more suspects were identified and additional evidence was unearthed beyond the initial incident. The investigation swiftly led to the arrest of suspects, including Saiefeddine Adem, Raheem Bishop-Jackson, Talarambage Fernando, James Moreau, Christian Darbandi, Jack Miley, and Suhaib Alekozai.
Among them, Fernando, Moreau, and Miley were identified as members of the Canadian Armed Forces, facing charges related to the kidnapping and firearms offenses. The Department of National Defence clarified the military service details of Fernando and Moreau, highlighting their enrollment status.
Demkiw stressed that accountability applies to everyone regardless of their profession, appreciating the Canadian Armed Forces for their cooperation in the investigation. Weapons, ammunition, and stolen military rounds were seized during the search warrants executed, underscoring the gravity of the case.
The police investigation, which has revealed a complex network of connections, is ongoing with no outstanding suspects currently. Detective Superintendent Joe Matthews expressed the ongoing efforts to piece together the intricate puzzle surrounding the case.
