The mission’s objectives are to defend Quebec’s interests with a view to revising the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) and to strengthen ties with American economic actors and elected officials, it is said.
It is planned that Fréchette will meet with Canada’s new ambassador to the United States, Mark Wiseman, who recently sparked controversy by sending an invitation to a reception in English only. Wiseman acknowledged on Thursday that this was an “unacceptable mistake.”
His appointment at the end of last year also sparked controversy in Quebec because of his previous comments criticizing the Canadian supply management system.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to meet with the U.S. business community, including representatives from the aluminum industry and home builders.
