The new Minister of Families Catherine Blouin announced Saturday morning that a call for proposals will be launched in the coming days to convert 5,000 unsubsidized daycare spots into subsidized spots, including some 500 spots in early childhood centers (CPEs).
The announcement is in line with the measure announced in Finance Minister Eric Girard’s latest budget on March 18, which allocates approximately $400 million for its implementation.

The call for projects will be open from May 7 to 29, according to a press release from the family affairs minister’s office. It will be divided into two components: one for daycare centers wishing to convert their unsubsidized spots into spots at $9.65 per day, and another for those wishing to take this opportunity to convert into CPEs.
“The selected projects will be announced this summer, and the spots will be gradually converted starting this fall,” the press release states.
“I am very proud that our government has created more than 37,000 subsidized spots and that nearly 11,000 spots have been converted to subsidized spots since the launch of the major initiative for families in 2021,” said Blouin.
