Festival Go vélo Montréal returns this weekend with Tour la Nuit and Tour de l’Île

Thousands of cyclists are expected to take part in the Go Bike Montreal Festival this weekend, prompting major traffic disruptions in several central boroughs across Montreal.

The Tour la Nuit will take place Friday evening, followed by the Tour de l’Île de Montréal on Sunday. Both events will begin and end at Jarry Park.

“The Tour la Nuit and the Tour de l’Île de Montréal are emblematic events that play an important role in the development of cycling culture and the city’s reputation,” said Jean-François Rheault, President and CEO of Vélo Québec. “We would like to thank the City of Montreal for its essential logistical support, which makes it possible to hold these unifying events year after year. ”

Organizers say the family-friendly rides aim to promote cycling and active transportation throughout the city.

Street closures and parking restrictions will be in effect along the routes, including in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Ville-Marie, Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie and several other boroughs.

“It is a pleasure for me to know that once again this year, thousands of cyclists of all ages will take to the streets of the city,” said Christine Black, Vice-President of the Executive Committee and responsible for Families, Seniors, Youth, Sports and Recreation. “This event is not only an opportunity for some people to discover the pleasures of cycling in the city, but also a unique chance to discover the city in a different way. I would like to thank the organizers and volunteers who make this event a great success every year.”

City officials are encouraging residents to plan ahead and consider public transit or active transportation during the events.
