Suspect charged in connection with targeted Langley shooting

A man has been charged in connection with a shooting in Langley on May 26, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says.

The Langley RCMP responded to reports of shots being fired in Brydon Crescent near 54 Avenue shortly after 11:30 p.m.

When Mounties arrived, they found a 47-year-old man in medical distress.

“Despite life-saving efforts, the individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene,” wrote RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom in a May 27 statement.

IHIT then took control of the investigation.

“Over several days, IHIT investigators worked tirelessly to speak with witnesses and examine the shooting scene,” read a statement from IHIT.

“Following the evidence trail, investigators were able to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.”

On May 31, the 37-year-old suspect was charged with second-degree murder.

“Despite the complexity of the investigation, IHIT investigators were able to quickly identify and locate the accused,” said IHIT’s Sgt. Freda Fong.

“This was made possible by the witnesses who came forward with information and the strong collaboration between IHIT and its policing partners across the Lower Mainland.”

Investigators say the accused and victim were known to each other, and this appears to be an isolated incident.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court June 5.
