Mounties in Maple Ridge are investigating after a boat operator crashed into a train bridge Tuesday night.
The Maple Ridge RCMP says it responded to Kanaka Creek Park near River Road and Tamarack Lane shortly after 8 p.m.
“Officers on scene learned that four male occupants of the boat were on board when it crashed,” said a police statement Wednesday.
Police say three of the boat’s occupants needed transportation to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Mounties only described one of the occupants as “seriously injured,” but BC Emergency Health Services says all three were in “serious, but stable condition.”
The boat reportedly crashed into the pillar of a bridge over Kanaka Creek.
“Officers secured the scene and spoke with numerous individuals, including the operator of the boat. Police also liaised with several agencies, including CPKC and Transport Canada,” Mounties explained.
The Maple Ridge RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating the cause and says “all factors are being considered.”
Witnesses or anyone with information to share is asked to call 604-463-6251 and quote file #2026-10579.
Insp. Martin Guay says the incident is a reminder to take precautions before boarding a boat.
“Always be prepared and understand the nature of the waterways you plan to access. Our officers will be out patrolling throughout the summer ensuring boaters are being safe so that everyone can enjoy their time on the water.”
