A 35-year-old woman was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Montreal overnight.
Montreal police (SPVM) say they received multiple 911 calls shortly before 3:00 a.m. reporting a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle near the intersection of René-Lévesque and Saint-Laurent Boulevards.
When officers arrived, they found the woman lying unconscious on the ground with injuries to her upper body. She was taken to hospital.
“The pedestrian reportedly crossed the intersection while the traffic light was red for her,” SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils said.
She added that the driver of the vehicle fled after the collision.
According to investigators, the vehicle was travelling east on René-Lévesque Boulevard it allegedly struck the pedestrian.
The authorities have not yet disclosed the make or model of the vehicle.
A security perimeter was set up for investigators from the SPVM’s collision unit.
Traffic restrictions are in place during the investigation:
René-Lévesque Boulevard is closed for eastbound traffic between Saint-Urbain and Saint-Dominique Streets.
Similarly, Saint-Laurent Boulevard is closed between Viger Street and René-Lévesque Boulevard.
