A northern Manitoba community remains on high alert as a shooter remains at large, prompting a lockdown. Pimicikamak Cree Nation Chief David Monias shared the concerning update in a recent social media post.
Authorities from the RCMP’s major crimes unit are actively investigating a suspicious death within the First Nation community, located approximately 530 kilometers north of Winnipeg.
Following a report from local First Nation Safety Officers about a seriously injured individual around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Cross Lake RCMP swiftly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found two males, one with a gunshot wound. Tragically, a 42-year-old male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene.
As law enforcement intensifies efforts to locate the suspect, who is believed to still be within the community, residents have been urged to remain indoors for safety.
