Former Cardiologist Guy Turcotte, convicted of killing his two young children in a tragic event in 2009, is set to make a request for supervised leaves from prison at an upcoming hearing with the Parole Board of Canada.
The decision regarding Turcotte’s request will be kept confidential by the Parole Board.
Turcotte’s hearing is scheduled for September 22nd.
If approved, Turcotte would be allowed brief escorted absences from prison, accompanied by a designated staff member from the Correctional Service Canada or an approved volunteer.
Having been serving a life sentence without parole eligibility for 17 years following his 2015 conviction, Turcotte had initially been found not criminally responsible due to mental illness in his first trial. However, a subsequent trial led to his conviction after a ruling by the Quebec Court of Appeal.
In a heartbreaking incident in 2009, following a separation from his wife, Turcotte tragically took the lives of his 5-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter.
