Tragedy Strikes as Woman Dies in Montreal North Homeless Encampment Fire
Montreal North borough was hit by a devastating incident on Wednesday morning as a fire broke out in a homeless encampment, resulting in the tragic death of a woman in her 50s.
The Montreal police (SPVM) were alerted to the fire via a 911 call around 5 a.m., reporting the blaze near the intersection of De Charleroi Street and Lacordaire Boulevard.
Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered an unconscious woman in her 50s, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, she was later pronounced dead, as confirmed by SPVM spokesperson Jeanne Drouin.
Although firefighters were summoned to the location, the flames had already been extinguished before their arrival, according to Drouin.
The cause of the fire remains a mystery, prompting investigators from the arson unit to schedule a visit to the site and piece together the events leading up to this tragic incident.
