“CAQ Hands Over Reigns: Quebec’s Deputy Premier Boasts a Stronger, Revitalized Province”

Despite being in a challenging position, CAQ Deputy Premier Ian Lafrenière remains adamant that his party is leaving a solid legacy as they prepare to step down from their governmental roles.

In a surprising turn of events, the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), previously holding 90 seats in the National Assembly, faced a significant setback by not securing any seats in the recent election on October 5.

The Parti Québécois (PQ) is set to take the reins with its 59 National Assembly members, while the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) will assume the role of the official opposition.

In a poignant moment, CAQ members convened for their final cabinet meeting at the National Assembly on Wednesday, marking the end of an era for many.

Lafrenière emphasized that they are handing over the reins to the next government with a sense of accomplishment.

“We are leaving the house in a better state than when we arrived,” Lafrenière asserted amidst a media gathering. “Progress has been made on all fronts. The public will witness this.”

Using the improvements in relations with First Nations and the Inuit communities as an illustration, he expressed pride in their achievements. However, he refrained from commenting on the current state of public finances.

Furthermore, Lafrenière hinted at the potential for him to lead the CAQ in the future. A temporary leader will be appointed over the upcoming weekend.

“I am eager to contribute to the party’s future,” he remarked. “We need to engage in serious discussions. This will be a gradual process, allowing us the time we need.”

“Numerous individuals have shown interest. Our party remains vibrant. Securing our position is crucial moving forward,” he added.
