The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is undergoing a sudden leadership transition as Clayton La Touche, Director of Education, departs from his role with immediate effect.
The decision for this change, as stated by TDSB Supervisor Rohit Gupta in a release to CityNews on Friday, was reached in consultation with Ontario’s Minister of Education. The rationale behind the move is to initiate a “fresh start” as the board navigates its future priorities.
Expressing his perspective on the matter, Gupta remarked, “In my sixth month as supervisor of the board, I believe that the TDSB requires a new beginning to position itself for success in the forthcoming years. Hence, after careful deliberation, the Minister of Education and I have jointly decided to implement a leadership transition.”
La Touche, who commenced his tenure with the TDSB in February 2025, was recognized for his contributions and dedication to the students and staff during his time with the board.
Gupta conveyed his appreciation, saying, “I extend my sincere gratitude to Clayton for his unwavering commitment to the students and staff of the TDSB since his arrival in February, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
In light of La Touche’s departure, Stacey Zucker, the Associate Director, has been appointed as the Interim Director of Education. Zucker, who previously held an interim position during the last academic year, brings a wealth of experience from her roles within both the TDSB and as an Associate Director at the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board.
Gupta announced, “I have requested Associate Director Stacey Zucker to assume the responsibilities of Interim Director of Education. Stacey demonstrated her capability in this role in the past academic year and possesses a rich background of expertise.”
This leadership transition signifies another significant development for Canada’s largest school board, which has been under continual scrutiny and oversight while under provincial supervision.
