A fire broke out at an industrial bakery in Etobicoke, but thankfully, no injuries were reported. The incident, which occurred on Thursday on Carlingview Drive, was quickly responded to by fire crews following reports of an oven fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames that had spread to the building’s roof. The severity of the situation led to the escalation of the blaze to a three-alarm status, prompting the deployment of additional resources to combat the exterior challenges posed by the fire.
Division Commander Robert Hewson highlighted the difficulties faced by the crews, including intense heat, poor air quality, and the physical demands of the operation. Despite these challenges, the priority remained on ensuring the well-being of the firefighters by managing their work rotations effectively.
Fortunately, all approximately 50 staff present in the building managed to evacuate safely on their own. Fire crews are set to stay at the site for the next 24 hours to conduct thorough monitoring for any potential hot spots on the roof.
