Montreal’s iconic art installation, Les Boules du Village, is making a comeback to the city’s Village in the fall of 2027, bringing a burst of color and vibrancy to the neighborhood once again.
The City of Montreal revealed that the artwork, crafted by Claude Cormier, will adorn Sainte-Catherine E. Street, enhancing the area’s appeal and charm as part of a revitalization effort.
Les Boules du Village, with its hundreds of thousands of colorful balls suspended over the pedestrian-friendly one-kilometer stretch between Berri and Papineau streets, has been a beloved sight in the Village during past summers.
Expressing excitement about the return of the installation, Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada emphasized its significance as a symbol deeply ingrained in the identity of the Village and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
The City’s comprehensive revitalization project for the Village includes enhancements to Sainte-Catherine E. Street such as durable concrete pavement, the addition of greenery through tree plantings, comfortable seating arrangements, and necessary upgrades to underground water and sewer infrastructure.
“This redevelopment initiative aims to create vibrant public spaces that support local businesses year-round, promote community engagement, and showcase the unique character of the Village,” stated Claude Pinard, chair of the Executive Committee and councilor for the Saint-Jacques district.
The upcoming contract award for the art installation marks a significant step forward in the City’s plans, signaling a new chapter of growth and transformation for Montreal’s lively Village.
