The B.C. government says it’s investing $35 million to support clean energy projects over the next decade.
Applications are now open for the latest round of the CleanBC Industry fund, announced Tuesday, designed to help companies adopt technology with an eye on electrification and net-zero emissions operations.
Provincial Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions Adrian Dix says the projects are expected to reduce more than 14 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over 10 years.
“These projects include things like electrifying oil and gas operations, capturing carbon at industrial facilities, improving energy efficiency in manufacturing and reducing methane and landfill emissions. They represent some of the most innovative climate solutions in Canada, and they’re being built right her,” Dix told media Tuesday morning.
The minister stressed the importance of B.C. becoming more self-sufficient in energy in the face of U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods.
“The economy — the world — is shifting. B.C. has had the opportunity to lead by showing what a clean, sustainable and competitive economy looks like. We’re making smart, practical investments that support long term economic strategy, energy independence and climate resilience. Industry is a key partner in this transition. “
The province says projects will be selected through a competitive cost/benefit analysis process.
“Projects are funded through milestone-based agreements with performance metrics to ensure emissions reductions are achieved,” the province explained.
